about

With their debut album “News From The Colonies“ released in 2012, PLEXIPHONES, with tongue-in-cheek, demonstrated their musical style, which also applies to the second full length release “Electric”. “Our musical roots are clearly British”, says singer Wolfgang Kemmerling. Classic 80s pop music from bands like Simple Minds, U2, Killing Joke, The Alarm or Big Country heavily influenced the band’s musicians, although the band does not intent to copy any of these styles.

The songs of the new album possess their own individuality which represents all the different musical roots from each of the six band members. Therefore, it is hard to exactly describe the style of the album. The classification “Electro Rock” maybe combines the essential elements which include groovy rock rhythms as well as electronic elements to create a combination of catchy melodies and pumping beats which work on CD as well as on stage. Especially their powerful, energetic and emotional live performances elates all generations of people they play for, which the band regularly demonstrates in front of very different audiences, e. g. during a support show for ZZ Top in 2015.

The album opener and first single “40 Days” is a representative example of the band’s potential with an almost revolutionary hymn (“I was a fighter, a soldier of love”) and a catchy refrain (“Let’s stop hiding”). However, the album is in fact very rich and powerful, each song could be a candidate for a single release in one way or another or even for different bands, which shows PLEXIPHONE’s capability to just write good and maybe timeless songs.

The album was produced by Tom E. Morrison who has worked with artists like Bonnie Tyler, Andrew Roachford, Underworld or Bliss, and Ex-Wallenstein, Twelve Drummers Drumming and Dead Guitars bassist Kurt Schmidt who already worked with Singer Wolfgang Kemmerling on his releases from the band “Fail Safe” for Phonogram Records. Tom and Kurt worked on each song to develop their individual radio and single potential and to create an enjoyable album-flow for listeners with a taste for handmade music and great melodies. The album mastering was done by Thomas Kessler (Dissidenten) and Andy Jackson (Pink Floyd, David Gilmour).
